What is vaping?
Vaping is the common term for inhaling vaporised liquid through a personal vaporiser, otherwise known as an electronic cigarette or e-cigarette. It is essentially a healthier, cleaner alternative to smoking cigarettes; most e-liquids have nicotine in them, giving smokers the ‘hit’ they crave without many of the drawbacks of smoking cigarettes. Many vapers use e-cigarettes to help themselves reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke or quit altogether.
How does an e-cigarette work?
There are many different types of e-cigarettes, but all refillable varieties tend to have the same basic elements. These include a cartridge to hold the e-liquid, a battery to provide the power, which is usually charged via a USB connection, and an atomiser that heats the e-liquid – also known as e-juice or juice – turning it into the vapour you breathe in.
What goes into an e-liquid?
The main ingredients in an e-liquid are propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerin (VG). In the case of Beard Vape Co #51, it is a 60/40 mix, but this ratio varies between different e-liquids. Both of these liquids are colourless, odourless and used in various food, medical and personal care products. The other ingredients are flavourings and nicotine. Beard Vape Co #51 is made with all-natural flavourings and does not contain any added sweeteners or colourings.
Is vaping safe?
You have probably heard conflicting opinions on e-cigarettes, and a new vaping scare story seems to emerge every other week. While such stories sell newspapers and generate clicks, they do not often give the complete picture.
Vaping is still relatively new and the industry is committed to improving the safety of all associated products It is not possible to say with absolute certainty that e-cigarettes pose no risks at all as long-term studies are needed, but they do not contain many of the dangerous chemicals found in cigarettes that increase the risk of lung cancer, heart disease and stroke.
However, a review published in 2015 by health agency Public Health England found that e-cigarettes are 95 per cent less harmful than cigarettes, and that almost all vapers in the UK are former or current smokers looking to quit or cut down.
